Sree Thulasidhama Vrudhashramam: Vrudhashramam was started on 2nd October 2003, on the Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. The Old-age home is located in the mid of green & clean 5 Acre premises of Lord Venu Gopala Swamy Temple in Chatram Village. The Vrudhashrama was started with 16 old-aged people who don’t have anyone to look after. Now the number of inmates increased to 50. The Vrudhashram was started by Sree Thimmappa, then was the Sarpanch of Chatram Village with noble cause of serving old aged senior citizens who have no one to look after and ill treated by their family members. Today Sree Thulasidhama Vrudhashram has 2 buildings (140 * 30, 25 * 40) where the inmates are staying. Ahshram has 3 Cows and 1 Buffalo to cater the milk requirements. Myrada, a rural development society has donated a Jeep to facilitate the transport requirements.
About the Founder:
Sree Thimmappa was an Employee of State run APSRTC. One day unexpectedly he entered the temple and he had thoughts of doing something to the village and people. He resigned to his Govt. Service and later elected as Sarpanch of Chatram Village. Then he started Old-age home to serve orphaned senior citizens. He along with Narayanappa, Sivamma, Mallamma & Hanumatharayappa are serving the Ashram with their Pure souls.
About the Temple:
Lord Venugopala Swamy Temple was built in 15th Century by
Great Rayala Kings. Sree Krishna Devaraya, the the great King who reigned the entire South India developed the Temple and donated 1800 Acres for Temple maintenance. Temple had 16 Archakas (Priests) and did Puja 108 times a day. In later times, Govt. has taken over the temple donated all land to poor people and neglected the temple. Now the 500 year old temple is in ruins until 1992, when it was noticed by Rangappa of the village Chatram. He started
to live in the Temple Premises and started Puja in the Temple. Even he started Annadanam to Pilgrims and sages.
The Temple has unique sculptures one of the important idols are Sree Thulasi Mata. Thulasi mata idol has no where found except in this Temple. Lord Krishna’s idol is unique and nowhere found him along with Rukmini and Satyabhama with 4 Cows. Lord Sree Panchamukha Veeranjaneya idol is known for his holiness and is renowned for his power.
Well Wishers and Donors:
Right from the beginning Rural Development Charitable Organisation, MYRADA has extended their hands. They have helped in raising the 2 buildings & 1 Jeep for transport. Then the Project Director of MYRADA, Sree P Satish Kimar has shown special interest in the Ashramam. Agriculture Department AD Sree E Eswarappa, RC Linganna has been helping the Ashram for its smooth run. RDT, Rural Development Trust, Anantapur has donated Cots & Beddings to 30 inmates. Many Philanthropists are
donating a sum of Rs1000/ for one day food requirements on the occasions like birthdays, wedding anniversaries etc.
Facilities Required:
The present building can give shelter to only 30 people; remaining inmates are staying in verandah.Ashramam infrastructure needs to be developed. In order to strengthen the Ashramam, needs to be concentrated on the developmental activities such as Health, Education, Livelihoods, Natural Resource Management & Cultural activities in the Mandal areas.
